Sam Opoku is a Ghanaian-American singer, songwriter, and producer making a mark on the music scene, using his intentional roots to bridge the sounds of both cultures. He came to the U.S when he was 7 years old and taught himself to play keys, produce and write music all from his bedroom studio. Sam’s ear and pen game are specially tuned for catchy pop melodies that seep into the bones and rest in the soul. Sam is an extraordinary songwriter, one who has been a finalist in the American National PoetryOutLoud Championship back-to-back.
His musical virtuoso and attention to lyricism show themselves in every song as he infuses each phrase with poetry and melodic flow. Sam released his debut single titled “The One”, in 2018, a bouncy Afropop tune that sees the singer serenading his love interest in young pop star fashion. “The One” burned up the airways in Ghana and beyond being featured on Accra’s number one radio station, live FM, at #1 for 3 weeks in a row. The vocalist continued his run with the heartfelt ear-worm “Love Somebody”, crafted by mega-producer, Northboi the Oracle (credits: Wizkid, Beyonce, Tory Lanes) which was featured on release on Apple music’s Afrobeat Hits Playlist as well as 101.1 phoenix radio. Sam’s versatility and creativity shine through his Afrobeat music as well as his mastery over other genres such as Hip-Hop, R&B, Synthwave, and EDM. He has signed and released a few singles with the biggest independent dance music label in the world, Armada, and has worked with Kususa which landed him a feature on Black Koffee’s track ID playlist as well as Armanda’s curated playlist. This allowed him the momentum to also be featured on Spotify’s curated playlist ‘R&B chill songs” for his record, “Baby”. Additionally, Sam’s music has been featured on music blogs such as Earmilk, Elevator magazine, and Neon Music.
Sam has worked with many notable creators such as Futuristic, Ghana’s own DANCEGODLLOYD, Oswin Benjamin, IROC Daniel (director/producer), and super-producer Yonni (credits: Trey Songz, Missy Elliot, Danileigh, Lil Wayne).
Sam’s plans for this year include fresh new single releases, collaborations, music videos, and a debut EP making this the start to a long and fruitful music career.
